CANCELLED BANK NOTE
FOUND IN CIRCULATION OFFIC TA LS CONCERNED (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. Considerable concern has been caused to Bank of New Zealand officials and police by the reappearance in circulation of one of a number of cancelled unsigned .£lO Bank of New Zealand notes which were recently shipped from Wellington to Australia. One of‘these notes was paid into ail Auckland branch last Wednesday and quickly identified, as it was unsigned and both the bottom- right and top left corners were cut off. Recently a number of these, notes printed in Australia were received by the head office, but as the new Reserve Bank notes had superseded them they could not be circulated. As there is a heavy duty on the noto form it was decided to ship thorn back to Australia to obtain the rebate. The notes were cut at two corners before shipping and on arrival in Australia were to bo counted and examined before being destroyed. Now one note lias- been returned. llow one note had been returned is a mystery, and the. presumption is that it- and probably others were stolen after the shipment left the Dominion.
