Mr. B. Haache, Gisborne, was a recent visitor to Wellington. .Mr. Justice Frazer lias been appointed acting-chairman of the Transport Coordination Board for the next two months.. lie relieves Sir Stephen Allen.
Mr T. F. Doyle, the Mayor off Bluff, has received advice from the secretary of the New Zealand Labor Party that ‘he has boon officially endorsed ns Labor candidate for the electorate.
The Bishop of Waiapu, the lit. Rev. Ijl. W. Williams, will celebrate Holy Communion and deliver a sermon at Ail Saints' Church, Tokomaru Bay, on .Sunday, and on Monday a social afternoon will be held at. the mission house lo enable parishioners lo meet him.
Mr. John Thodey returned yesterday to his home at Patntahi after an absence of two years in England, where lie lias beqn continuing his studies as a speciality dancer. While in London lie was successful in securing engagements at important theatres, including the Coliseum. He hopes to return to England next year.
Introducing the Rev. James Aitken, prior to fast night’s prize-giving function at the High School, Mr. L. T. Burliard, chairman of the Board of Governors, paid a tribute to the close association of Mr. Aitken and his sons with the work of the school. Rob and Dan Aitken had both taken the senior University' scholarships while pupils of the Gisborne High School, he reminded the large gathering, Rob becoming a Rhodes scholar, and Dan later following his brother to Oxford. Dr. Robert Aitken had recently added to his other achievements the coveted honor of being appointed reader in clinical medicine at Lhe now nodical school opened by the London University, added Mr. Bnrnard, amidst, applause.
