CHURCH FOR HIKERS
SPECIAL SERVICES SUCCESS IN ENGLAND (Elec. Tel. Copyright—Unitod Press Assn.) (Received Dec. 14, 2 p.m.) SYDNEY, Dee. 14. The Rev. H. Leonard Hurst, the new secretary for the London -Missionary Society in Australia and New Zealand, who arrived at Sydney yesterday, said the church had, to some extent, solved the problem of the effect on attendance at worship of hiking in England. Churches in many denominations had accepted the view that young people would go hiking, and had decided to serve thorn by holding special services, ft was not uncommon to see large numbers of bicycles stacked in churchyards during a service, and when the service was over the young men and women came out of church in shorts and skirts and went off for a day’s enjoyment in the country. These services, as well as other services held at hiking rendezvous were well attended.
