THEFTS ALLEGED
RELIEF WORKS FUNDS (Per Press Association.) WAIPUKURAU, this day. On remand, Herbert Monterey Tansley, formerly town clerk of Waipukurau, and Christian Mathieson Gronn, a relief worker, who was arrested on November 16, appeared before Messrs. B. J. McCormick and F. J. Witheron, Justices of the Peace, charged on two counts with the theft of sums totalling £164 5s 3d, the property of the Government, arising from the administration of unemployment relief. Eleven relief workers are being called to give evidence. Detective J. Rickqrdikc, of Napier, appeared for the police.
