NUHAKA NEWS
(Herald Correspondent.) It would seem almost fatal to even suggest holding a moonlight garden party in Nuhaka, as it invariably rains, and Tuesday evening was no exception when the Nuhaka Native School grounds were beautifully illuminated and there was a very good gathering present. However, it was found impossible to carry on outside, and the function was transferred to the L.D.'S. Hall, where a very enjoyable evening was spent, the stalls being well patronised, which resulted in a good financial success. Mr. R. Steed, jun., * kindly presented a, special talkie film, this being much appreciated. Members of the School Committee thanked all those who donated articles and money which so greatly assisted in the. ultimate success of the evening. The winners of articles competed for were as under Turkey: Mrs. J. Crombie and Messrs. T. Mahanga and C. Smith, tie. Decorated cake: Nurse Grant, Miss Woodley and Mr. A. Hickling, tie. Dinner: Mrs. T. McKee. Cheese: Mrs. R. Karangaroa and Mr. D. Smith. Nail driving: Ladies, Mrs. . T. Torowhiti; gentlemen, Mr. C. Nepia. There was a good attendance of members at the Nuhaka Women’s Institute meeting, held at the mission house on Wednesday, Sister May Gardiner presiding. It was decided to again bold *the institute flower show next year, a special committee being set up. The annual picnic was fixed for February 2. A discussion regarding the arts and crafts section of the A. and P. Show took place. The competition, plate of pikelets, was exceedingly well competed for, the first prize going to Mrs. W. Boyle, the second to Mrs. J. Millar, and' the third to Mrs. A. Richardson. The meeting concluded with the singing ol the National Anthem.
The many friends of Mr. and Mrs. J. Black will be glad to know that their son, John, who whilst mustering a mol> of young horses on the station, was thrown, suffering a broken leg, is easier and progressing favorably in hospital.
