SIX-DAY WEEK
MILKMEN’S REQUEST SUPPORT FROM COUNCIL (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. A deputation from the Milk Round Owners’ Union to-day asked the Milk Council to sifpport the union’s claim for a six-day week. Their spokesmen said that no farmer, because he paid £IOO an acre for land, should lie given more consideration by the council than others who paid less. The council, after questioning the deputation, promised to consider the mayor when fixing milk prices. When the deputation retired, the chairman, Mr G. W. TlutchinsoiV, said: ‘ ‘Tt is quite wrong to work men seven days a week. .1. am not referring to the economic, side, hut the moral side. It is ridiculous to Work men seven days a week.” Subsequently, the council fixed retail prices-for January to April at 5d for loose milk and 5A for bottled, an increase of Ad.
