WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
TOKOMARU BAY MEETING (Herald Correspondent.) The December meeting of the. Tokomaru Bay Women’s Institute was held in the tennis and , ho\yling pavilion on Wednesday afternoon and was well -ntteded by 'members.
The roll-call,, “beauty bints,”’ was very interesting and drew some useful responses. Arrangements for the drama festival were discussed. The home-made toys which were lodged for competition were made the property ot the Women’s Institute, to' be given to the Waiapu Hospital. Donations towards the hospital children’s Christmas treat were also received, and the amount of £1 2s 6d was collected during the afternoon. Sixpenny parcels were brought to the meeting bv the members who bought a parcel. The prize for the best value was won by Airs. A. L. Walker, and by the donor Mrs. S Ddig. The members amused themselves before. afternoon tea by sketching the president and vide-prosident, Mrs. If. Beattie and Airs. J. Lindsay, who donated prizes for the, best, portraits. The prizes were won by Afiss D. Conole who was well rewarded.
There were good entries in the .competitive section and the points prizes were awarded as follow: Home-made t„y.—Mrs. Kay, 1: Mrs. Newlands. 2. Home-made Christmas cake.—Mrs. Alalcobn, 1; Mrs. D. Felton, 2. Vase of carnations. —Mrs. .1. Corbett, 1; Mrs. Tankard, 2.
It was announced that, the next- meeting, to be held in February, would be a members’ (day, when the meeting would be conducted by the members, and not by the usual officers. The competitions at the next meeting will be, cotton frock to cost not more than ss, to be worn by the competitor at the meeting, and knitted bed wrap, and apple tart. The hostesses for the meeting were Mesdames 0. Alathieson, H. Faiflie, Aspinall, and .1. Riddell, and Aliss D. Conole.
