Asked in the House of Commons if the Anglo-German trade agreement was w.orking satisfactorily, and if lie was aware that exporters were finding it difficult to do trade with Germany owing to difficulty on the part of sonic German importers .obtaining import certificates, Colonel .1. Colville, Secretary of the Overseas Trade Department, said that it was the case that difficulties of the character referred to wore experienced in connection with the early working of the agreement. These points, however, had been taken up as they arose with tho German authorities by the British Embassy at Berlin, and he understood that the arrangements were working, on the whole, satisfactorily.
Colonel Colville, questioned about the Anglo-German payments agreement made on November 1, said this also was so far working satisfactorily, and, including £400,000 paid when the agreement was signed, approximately £1,400,000 had been made available by the German Government towards the liquidation of outstanding trade debts. Further sums would become available from time to time according to the terms of the agreement.
