WAIPAWA ARRIVES FAST CARGO VESSEL The Shaw, Savill and Albion Company’s new motor-ship Waipawa, now .at Auckland is the second of the three large motor-ships ordered by the company tor the England-New Zealand trade.. .The first vessel was the Waiwera, which, recently visited Auckland and is now en route to England. The third vessel, the Wairangi, is under construction, and will be completed shortly. ' Like the Waiwera, the Waipawa has been designed to carry fruit, meat and dairy produce, as well as, general cargo. She lias six holds, of which five are insulated. The holds are served with veyri'-al steel tubular derricks, each With its own electric winch. On the foremast is a special derrick capaole of lifting heavy loads up to 40 tons. ’ / Besides being a cargo' carrier, the vessel has accommodation for 12 passengers in eight single and- two double-berth cabins on the boat deck. The single cabins are provided with communicating doors so that, if required, they can be transformed into double cabins. Each cabin has hot and cold running water. For the comfort and convenience of passengers, there are available two deck golf courses, one tennis feourfc and a swimming bath. The roomy decks give plenty of space for promenading.

Above the passenger cabins are the quarters for the master and navigating officers and also the bridge and charthouse, which is equipped with all the latest aids to navigation, including an echo sounding machine and a direction finder. ' .

Captain J. W. Johnson is in command of the Waipawa and his crew of 67 includes four -deck officers and 10 engineers. -

Tlie Waipawa is exceptionally fast for a cargo vessel, and on her trials, using only 90 per cent, of her power, obtained a speed of 19 knots with the tide atid 18.4 knots against the tide.' ■ - . -
