AMERICAN GIRL’S TRIP A smiling, happy passenger who arrived at Wellington by the Makufa from San Francisco was Miss F. - Matthew, a young American girl who won a prize in a newspaper travel contest, and is making the trip to Australia and back at the expense of the.. San. Francisco Chronicle. She is the second prize winner' in the competition to have arrived at Wellington recently. Miss Matthew summed up her first impression of New' Zealand as ‘‘very pretty,” and she said she liked .the hills around Wellington. Miss Matthew has not been out of the United "States previously, and she is enjoying immensely the experience of seeing new; scenes. She is on the staff of the University of California at Davis, the Davis College being the agricultural branch of the university. The main university buildings are at Berkeley. To her interviewers, Miss Matthew politely requested that they should not ask her about President Roosevelt. Like most young girls, the visitor has her film favorites, _ and she confessed to having a particular liking for Robert Montgomery and Leslie Howard.
