DEFIANCE OF LEAGUE
CONQUERING HERO POLAND LIONISES DELEGATE WARSAW, Oct. I. Because of his- defiance of the League of Nations over the minorities question at Geneva on September 18, Colonel Joseph Beck, Polish Foreign Minister, was received as a conquering hero when he arrived back in Warsaw to-day. The entire Government, headed by the Premier, and accompanied by generals and the Mayor of Warsaw, gathered at the railway station. Speeches were made praising the ultimatum speech lie made at Geneva, which drew a strong rebuke from Britain.
As the Minister drove the short distance to his homo he was cheered by a crowd of 200.000 lining the route. All the way along the line from the frontier Colonel Beck had been treated to similar ovations. Last night he stopped at Zywiec to confer for three hours with Marshal Pilsudski, virtual. Dictator of Poland.
