The death occurred suddenly on the Riecarton racecourse to-day of Dr. Frederick Goulburn Gibson, 03, a wellknown medical man and a prominent sportsman. He dropped dead outside the weighing-in room. He had been in poor health and to-day was having his first outing for some time. MR. f. R. TRIPE (Ter Press Association.) ROTORUA, last night. The death .occurred last night of Mr. Thomas Richard Tripe, (57, a member of a wcll-kndwn Wellington family. Deceased had gone to Rotorua to setS his brother, Mr. A. H. Tripe, prior .to leaving on a trip to Tasmania, when he became suddenly ill and died.

Mr. Tripe was bOrn in Eaugiora in l 80", being the fifth son of the late Dr. William Borrondalo Tripe. Going to Wellington with liis parents in 187 S, he received his education at the Mount Cook School and Wellington College, and joined the staff 6f the Union Steam Ship Company in 1884. With that firm he served in many Capacities, ultimately becoming manager at Launceston, Tasmania, in 191(1. He retired-frotn the company’s service about three years ago. ARCHIIISHOP SPENCE (Klee. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) ADELAIDE, Nov. 6. The death occurred yesterday of the Most Bov. It. W. Spence, Roman Catholic Archbishop of Adelaide, aged 74 years.

The late Archbishop Spence was horn in Cork and educated in Ireland and Lisbon, being ordained in 1882. Returning to Ireland four years later, be was attached to various houses of his order, In 1898 he went, to Adelaide, being appointed Archbishop in 1914.

She made many friends, and there will he widespread regret at her death. The late Mrs. Craig is survived by her husband, three daughters and four'sons, (he family comprising Miss Emily Craig. Mrs; J. M. Borhain and Mrs. A. F. Salmon, all of Gisborne; Mr. A. S. Craig, Hokitika ;' Mr. Christopher Craig, New South Wales'; -Mr. Herbert A v Craig, To Puke; and Mr. Bobert Craig, Tauranga. , The interment will take place! at the Taruheru cemetery to-morrow afternoon.
