While fishing off the town wharf, Tauranga, Mr. ’O. Webber, of Auckland, booked a large stingray, which fought) determinedly for halt an hour before it was landed. After it was hooked it took three men to bold it, and the use of a dinghy had to 'be requisitioned bes fore it was killed. The stingray was 7ft. long and measured dft. lOin. across.; Earlier in the evening Mr. Webber hooked a shark, which was estimated to ho 9ft. or 10ft. in length, but alter a brief encounter it. made its escape.
