' ~ flood progress also is being made with the building to house the new transmitting plant near Henderson for IYA, and the latticed steel 500 ft. mast has now reached a height of about 200 ft. It is expected testing of the radio equipment will commence in December. It is the first building hr New Zealand or Australia specially designed to meet the peculiar needs of broadcasting. The necessity for excluding noise has called for elaborate air-conditioning plant and artificial lighting. From machinery on the ground iloor air is sent by means of ducts to the various studios and extracted through other ducts. Special equipment is used to prevent the transmission of extraneous noise through the air-conditioning system. It is also necessary for the temperature of the air in the studios to ho kept constant, as the velocity of sound varies with differences in temperature.
