PRECEDENCE
AT ROYAL FUNCTIONS
CANBERRA, Oct. 20.
There was considerable comment in official quarters in Canberra to-day at the action of the Chief Justice of the High Court, Sir Frank Gavau Duffy, iii leaving the State dinner given by the Commonwealth Government last night in honor of the Duke of Gloucester, and dining privately at the Hotel Canberra. Sir Frank Gavau Duffy’s action, which was allegedly due to the fact that ho was seated at a position in the diningroom which he did not consider in keeping with the high official position which he occupies, raises the question of precedence at official functions.
