POVERTY BAY CLUB COMPETITION GAMES Competition games were commenced on (he Poverty Bay Bowling Club’s green on Saturday afternoon with the opening of the Club Fours tournament. The games will continue throughout, the season between fixed teams. On Saturday Mac Gibbon’s team received a bye, but play between the other teams resulted as under: —

GISBORNE CLUB As a result of the break iu the long spell of fine weather, the Gisborne Bowling Club last Saturday afternoon decided not to commence the Saturday Tours competition until next Saturday. Only ordinary games were played last Saturday. therefore, and they resulted as follows:

Morton, Balfour and McCulloch (s) 22 v. Galvin, Wade and J. Hay (s) 19. Dobson, Chrisp and D. McGregor (s) 25 v. 11. Jones, Riddell and Beckett (s) 18, Birkeit, Munro, Thornton and Allan (s) 22 v. Salmon, Chamberlain, Crawford and Hammond (s) 11. G. T. Bull, Pyke, Waite and Sutton ( S ) 23 v. G. McGregor, Shaw, Shirnmin and H. E. Bright (s) 21.

KAHUTIA CLUB

f iin third round of the Masonic Cup Fours was played on the Kahutia Bowling Club’s green on Saturday afternoon. Jenkins’ defeat of Smith’s team has made the competition more interesting. The draw for the next round in the Masonic Cup Fours is as follows: Jenkins v. Power, Morse v. Downey, and Smith a bye.

TEAMS COMPETITION

Despite the threatening weather on Friday evening, there was a good attendance of bowlers and spectators for the floodlight games on the Kahutia club's green. The chief interest centred in the teams competition. Builders and Plumbers’ teams defaulted, but the other games resulted as under: — Butchers (J. Eckford, W. Jackson, J. Downey and 0. Dunlop, s) .12 v. The Rest (J. Dower, E. Solvander, C. Robinson and R. Morse, s) 2. Printers (T; Holt, J. W. Young, J. Davies and J. Walker, s) 10 v. Mercantile (W. Riddell, C. Holland, C. Pollock, and D. Roderick, s) 6. The final match between Butchers and Printers was postponed owing to rain and will be played as soon as the weather improves. Mercantile plays The Rest to decide who will hold the wooden spoon.
