NOTED FISHERMAN
ME. WHITE-WICKHAM RETURNING IN DECEMBER LONDON, Sept. 20. In the Illustrated Sporting and Dramatic News, London, September 14, Mr. Montagu Russell gives, with good pictures, an outline of Mr. H. WhiteWickham’s record season at the Bay of Islands. The weather for the most part was cool, but generally ideal for fishing. During January nad February he lost only two days through bad weather. It would seem, Mr. White-Wickham states, as a result of bis experience over so many years, that each season the game fish are later in arriving in New Zealand waters. Whereas formerly in January there were largo numbers of swordfish and make sharks to be seen and caught, now in the first half of that month there are no swordfish, and comparatively few makos —whilst .in February there is a big preponderance of swordfish. This condition of affairs should be borne in mind by prospective overseas anglers, to prevent disappointment as far as possible. Next season’s plans are already made, and Mr. WhTte-Wickham, who is now in England, returns to New Zealand in December. Whilst in England trout fishing will again cast its spell over him.
