PIGEON RACING

GISBORNE FLYING CLUB RACE FROM WHANG AREA The Gisborne Flying Club’s race from Whangarei, an airline distance of 228 miles, was conducted in unfavorable weather, but nevertheless the race resulted in the closest finish of the season. The southerly winds and rain -prevented fast velocities. The winning bird gave a very creditable performance considering the circumstances. So close was the finish that the velocities of the third and fourth placed birds had to be taken to the second decimal before the places could be decided. The result of the race was as follows: R. Somervell’s b.e.p.c. Mystery, 961.0 n yds per min., 1; F. Green’s b.c.c. Reliance. 959.3yds per min., 2; F. B. Wildish’s'r.c.c. Copper King, 958.662yds per min., 3: F. Green’s r.c.c. Pal, 958.606yds per min., 4.
