HENLEY REGATTA LONDON BEAT WANGANUI (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) MELBOURNE, Nov. 4. Leading easily from start to finish, London easily "defeated Wanganui in the race for the Challenge Cup at the Henly regatta. The conditions -were perfect. London defeated Hawthorn by a length and a-half in their beat, and Wanganui defeated University by a length in another heat. In the first semifinal, Wanganui defeated Mercantile by a length. London’s time in the final was 4min. 37see.

Sculling results were:— Yarra Challenge Cup: v First heat.— Abbot (Petone), 1; Peppier (Yarra), 2; Power (Melbourne), 3. Won by three lengths. "RCosta gained a slight advantage at the dart, but after a quarter of a mile Burridge drew up and was running level. Between the footbridge and the Derby street bridge Burridge moved slowly ahead, until at the latter point he had lead of a length. In the final sprint Burridge came up again to win by half n length of clear water. The second race was between J. Gemmell, str., C. McLernon, R. Coleman, and P. Barry (bowß and G. C. Jones, str., E. Dodd, D. Wilson, and E. Dudley (bow). Getnmell’s first half-dozen strokes took him into the lead, and at the Roebuck road bridge he had an advantage of a length and a-half. Between the bridges be extended this to a length and three-quarters and there seemed to be no doubt of the issue, but Jones rallied his crew in the last quarter of a mile and drew np on Gemmell, who, however, was able to stave off the challenge to win by a length and a-half. Rowing will be continued in this series this evening, when the second round will be commenced. All members of the clnb were asked to Ixs present during the week-end to have a group photograph taken on the staging in front of the club-house, and a good muster was obtained in spite of the doubtful weather. This photograph will prove of great Interest in years to come. a S it will serve as a permanent record of members rowing during the diamond jubilee year.

POVERTY BAY CLUB FIRST TRIAL FOURS Two races in the First- Trial Fours series of the Poverty Bay Rowing Club were decided during the week-end. Both events- were rowed on the Waimat-a course, over three-quarters of a mile. Trophies for the series have been donated bv Mr. A. J. Cox, of Messrs. Good and Company. R. J. Pattv, str., W. Higgs, V. Butler, and R. W. Patty met R. Neilson, str., J. Young, A. Jukes, and K. Edwards in the first event. The boats remained on even terms until passing the War Memorial. Here Patty commenced to pull away, .and opened up a gap of threequarters of a length. Neilson tried hard to regain level terms, but nearing the finish Patty had the race well in hand ao<l was gradually increasing his lead, eventully winning by a shade over a . length. . In the other race, J. Barrett, str., J. Packman, A. Richardson, and P. McMahon defeated G. Ardem, str., R. Mitchell. B. Fenn. and J. Green. Ardern gained a slight advantage off the mark, but soon after settling down Parrett gradually reduced the gap, and went on to take'a slight lead. Ardern hung on determinedly, but with a strong finishing effort Barrett went ahead again to win with dear water between the boats. . The semi-final of the senes will he' rowed this evening.
