SEVERAL NEW RECORDS

AUSTRALIA-ENGLAND CATHCART-JONES ’ FLIGHT TRI BUTE TO TEOTINTCTANS (British Official Wireless.) Roe. 1.30 p.in. RUGBY, Nov. 2. Flight-Lieut. Cathcart-Jones and Mr. Ken Waller landed at Lympne at 1.15 o’clock this afternoon, having completed their return journey in the record time of 13 days 6 hours 38 minutes. A small crowd of people assembled at the aerodrome gave a rousing reception to the airmen, who, in reply, said: “We are sorry we are late. We intended to he here sooner.’’ Despite the delay at Athens for a day and a half owing to bad weather, several new records have been established. On the Comet’s homeward journey from Melbourne to England the time has been reduced to 6 days 15 hours 9 minutes, the former official Darwin-Englaud record has been beaten by 3 days 7 hours 2 minutes, and other new records have been set up for laps on the homeward journey. Speaking of their attempt to fly from Athens yesterday. Mr. Waller said that while over the Adriatic they passed through severe thunderstorms before deciding to turn back. Later this afternoon Messrs. Jones and Waller flew their machine to the De Havilland aerodrome at Hatfield. Mr. Jones, on alighting, paid a warm tribute to the technicians and others responsible for the building of the aeroplane, who, he said, really deserved the praise which was being given to the pilots in their achievement.
