GISBORNE GLUE FORMED v T * - 'a D v; v "a { U My:*. ... MUCH ENTHUSIASM SHOWN A camera club, to be known as the Gisborne Photographic Circle, was formed last evening as the result of a meeting of photographic enthusiasts convened by Messrs-R. K. Baldrey and J. L. Graham. The objects of the club are mutual study and file advancement o-f the photographic art. Mr. Baldrey, who presided, explained what steps had been taken by way of gathering information from the ,other societies in New Zealand, six in all, and gave a digest of this information.
It was agreed that the circle should work on somewhat similar lines to the Camera Piotorialists of Auckland, and that, the membership should bo open to all workers sufficiently advanced to lie doing their own work and with aspirations towards plictorialism. Future candidates for membership are to be proposed and seconded by members of the circle, approved by Die, executive, and elected at, the next meeting of the circle. A provisional committee consisting of the chairman, Canon A. F. Hall, and Mr. F. H. Forge, was set up to draw up a constitution and competition rules, and to arrange with the New Zealand societies for the. loan of the Bledisloe Cup collection of exhibition prints now oil'circuit of the clubs, a nd'hi sty t'o, affiliate immediately with the "Royal Photographic (Society of- England. This latter organisation makes available to its affiliated members from time to time collections of prints, lantern slides and lectures which Will he of inestimable value to the young society. The, established societies in New Zealand have uls'o offered' their assistance in The jjiapo of loan prints and lectures, all of w hich will be of great benefit. "
It was decided that the meetings should bo held on the. first Friday in each month, and the first meeting will be held on DerettiTsci- 7 at Miss Nancy Graham’s studio, when tho constitution and rules aS 1 submitted by the provisional committee will he. adopted, and officers elected.
/V short talk will he given liv Mr.' Baldrey on the aims and objects of :photography, and members/will, submit prints for mutual criticism. At later meetings competitions on set. subjects will he held and awards made on a points basis, the competitor gaining most points by* the end of the year being [tywarded a trophy. Talks also will he given on subjects likely to be of interest and value to members. It is also proposed to hold occasional outings, when the more experienced workers will give assistance to others in the selection of view-pointtn composition,' exposure, etc. the enthusiasm displayed at the preliminary meeting can be taken as an indication, the future of tile 'circle is assured, and a successful career anticipated.
