MAORI GIRL DROWNED
TBAtIEDY at euatoki (Per Press Association.) WHAKATANE, this day. Whilst playing.on the. river bank 1 ties a Ruatoki Native School with other Maori children at the lunch hour yesterday a native girl, Kari Edwards, went to paddle and got out of her depth and was drowned, the other children not realising that the child was in danger until it was too late to render assistance. They then ran to the pa for help. Efforts by the schoolmaster, Mr. Hawsler, at artificial respiration, were unavailing.
