NEW FOREIGN MINISTER EXCHANGE OF MESSAGES(British Official Wireless.) Rec. noon. RUGBY, Oct. 1* The following message has been rl ceived by Sir John Simon from M. Laval: “It was not until after your departure from Paris that I was Entrusted with the direction of the foreign policy of France. 1 regret keenly that I was unable to meet,you during the few hours you spent here. I. would have been glad to-• 'tell you personally hoiv happy I feel at being called upon to collaborate with you,in the interests of the maintenance of peace.” Sir John Simon sent the following reply: “I thank Your Excellency most heartily for your friendly message, which I warmly reciprocate. The tragic death of M. Barthou removed a statesman with whose work for international peace I was happy to be associated, but 1 rejoice to think that [ shall find in Your Excellency another collaborator with waoin I trust I will be associated in dealing with the grave problems of the time in a spirit which will make for world peace, and maintain in their full effect the friendly relations between our two countries,”
