KEYES AND ADMIRALTY LONDON, Oct. 2. _ Reviewing Admiral Sir Roger Keyes book, Mr. Winston Olmrebill says: “It, when Sir Roger pleaded with the Admiralty to renew the efforts to force the Dardanelles, he could have displayed thd credentials which he gained at Zeebrugg,’ in 1918. he would immediately have been believed, but. my successors could not bring themselves to break the deadlock of a ‘safety first’ negation. ‘‘All the poor, loyal, unthinking, uninstructed politicians and people rejoiced when the mad adventure of the Dardanelles was abandoned, acclaiming the evacuation as a victory and turning with pathetic, purblind confidence to the measureless slaughter and hideous waste, on the Western Front, where victory was so long delayed that its aftermath, was almost indistinguishable from defeat.”
