An experiment has been carried out by tho Hastings Borough Council with the lighting of two blocks in Heretaunga street by means of electric gaseous dis'hnrgo street lamps. The estimated cost for installing these lamps throughout ttye bill length of the street is £BOO. Considerable disappointment was exiressed by a number of passengers on the Tnmaron, who had the unenviable experience on Thursday of seeing the Wnnganolla, on which they had Imped to proceed to Sydney, pass'them as they were between Tiri Island and the Rangiloto beacon at the end of their voyage ■Vom England to Auckland. Twelve passengers had hoped to join the Wanganelln at Auckland.
"Some urgenl steps should he taken by the board to prevent the stealing of wool that is going on at the present time, the opinion being that wool is stolen at, night and that the transport lorries travelling nightly have made it onite an easy matter,” stated the Southern Hawke’s Bay provincial office of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union in a report made to the Transmit Co-ordination Board in Wclliajfton.
