BYRD RESCUED

SEVEN MONTHS' VIGIL RECOVERY FROM ILLNESS A SUCCESSFUL FLIGHT (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) LITTLE AMERICA, Oct. 13. Taking advantage of a temporary break in .t.he - weather, an aeroplane on Friday flew to the Bolling advance base and immediately returned with Admiral Richard Byrd. The flight was made in quick time, although tho pilot, Bill Bowlin, spent half an hour hovering over the white barrier before being able to pick out the hut. Admiral Byrd left here, on March 25, and thus lacked 12 days of spending a seven months’ vigil for weather observation. On his return to camp lie appeared to have recovered from the illness that made the rescue party necessary. His face is filled out, and most of his strength has returned. Mr. Poulter accompanied Admiral Byrd on the return flight. ’ Vs their leader stepped from the plane ail the members of the expedition crowded loimd him. His long hair has not been cfii since he left.- He appeared to be greyer., but he was in excellent spirits. He greeted each man by name, and thanked them for carrying on the expedition while lie had gone away. The flight took only, a few hours. B nvlin departed at 10 o’clock in the morning and returned at 2.20 o’clock in tho afternoon.

The No. 2 tractor, carrying supplies, arrived at the Bolling advance camp at 2 o’clock on Thursday morning. The 1 1 actor party going to the Edsel Ford range was finally able to proceed after the winds had' almost buried the tractorrind sledges. When the winds dropped, the equipment, was dug out. According to the latest word, the party is 139 nautical miles from the camp where it is again delayed by mechanical difficulties with the tractor. The message flashed no mention of whether the, party was able to make quick renairs. There is slight worry here, as the party has been about 14 days on the trip.
