THE WEATHER To-day’s North Island Report. Blue skies were reported this morning at Gisborne and Napier, but overcast conditions prevailed elsewhere m the North Island, with rain at Auckland and Wellington. Light southerly breezes were reported south of Napiet, and Jig g northerlies further north. I lie barometer showed little movement, temperatures at 9 o’clock were: Auckland and East Cape 59 degrees, Tauranga 60, Gisborne and Opotiki 63, Napier 64, and Wellington 48. Rough seas were reported at Tauranga ; elsewhere moderate or smooth. Last Night’s Forecast A shallow depression lias been crossing the Dominion to-day, while a moderate anticyclone is approaching from the Tasman. Winds strong north-westerly at first in north Auckland, otherwise south, erlies prevailing, light to moderate mainly, but strong in a few exposed places. Seas rather rough, but decreasing north of Cape Rgmont; elsewhere smooth to moderate. In the eastern Tasman, light to moderate. Weather dull and misty, with further rain in most, districts, but a fairly general improvement likely tomorrow. Cool temperatures. Midday Forecast General inference.—Though pressure is fairly high over New ..Zealand, it is lower, especially in the north, than either to the eastward or over the Tasman Sea, and conditions, therefore, are still somewhat unsettled. Forecast. —Light variable winds,, hut southerlies prevailing. Weather, cloudy to overcast, with some scattered light rain, but improving. Seas moderate.
