ANNUAL BALL

MOTU RUGBY SUB-UNION A GOOD ATTENDANCE (Herald Correspondent.) The four teams of the Motu Sub-union were well represented at the annual ball, which took placo in the Public Hall at Matawai on Friday evening, those present including United, Otoko, Koranga, and Matawai players. Mr. J. Alason-Johnson, the veteran ex-president, ably controlled the floor till the arrival of Mr. R. Mortleman, M.C. The music was supplied by Miss Ruru’s orchestra, Miss Ivess taking Miss Ruru’s placo at the piano. Extras contributed by Misses Mortleman and Farrow and Mrs. S. Lette were much appreciated. A delicious sit-down supper, under the supervision of Mesdames Scholium and Jacobs, assisted by many willing helpers, was a feature of the entertainment.

There was a happy interval before supper, when Mr. R. Mortleman called on Mr. Glen Caulton to present the cups and badges won during tiro year. Mr. Caulton referred to the long period that the Matawai club had held the cup, having won it on seven occasions since 1924, and said he was pleased that this year the honor was to bo divided with Koranga, which club would hold it for six months and Matawai for the remaining six months. He also said that the other clubs in the union would have to watch United next year, as it had plenty of young players coming on and he and many other supporters of the gamo would like to have seen a second playoff match, hut evidently the captains thought differently. In winning the seven-a-side tournament, lie said, Koranga was to be congratulated in holding the smaller cups and was also fortunate in receiving badges for the two teams—seniors and seven-a-side. Mr. J. McDonald, Koranga’s captain, received the honors. Badges were also presented to Mr. R.
