EMBARGO MUST REMAIN
MINISTER’S STATEMENT
(Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) SYDNEY, Oct. 11. A cablegram yesterday from New Zealand intimated that there were abundant supplies of first-class potatoes available in Canterbury for shipment to Australia to relieve the acute shortage there if the existing embargo was lifted. The matter was referred to Mr F. H. Stewart, Minister for,Commerce, who said that, although there was a good chanee of trade relations between New Zealand and Australia improving shortly, the potato embargo must remain until further discussion took place between a Minister from New Zealand and the authorities in Australia. Me added that he had written to -the New Zealand Government inviting a Minister to S° t 0 Australia, and ho new awaited a reply.
