“Burn Witch Burn”
MR. A. Merritt, an American journalist, is thp author of “Burn Witch Burn.” A courageous doctor is his hero; a sinister woman of extraordinary size and strength his witch. As owner of a doll-shop Madame Man dalip uses the old' magic of wax formed in the image of her victims—magic older than history and still practised among ancient peoples such as the Mexicans. These dolls in modern New York become animate, and while killing their victims, destroy their characters, their wills and their souls. Dr. Lowell, who comes to the reluctant conclusion that his knowledge of science is powerless to solve such problems, is a witness of deaths which in 1 heir horrible features can he likened to Poe’s famous scenes of horror.
