PUBLICAN RETIRES

MR. 0. M. SCEATS HONORED L.V.A. PRESENTATION Regret at the retirement from hotel proprietorship of Mr. O. H. Scents was expressed at a pleasant gathering of members of the Poverty Ray Licensed Victuallers’ Association held on Wednesday evening. Mr. Sceats has held the license of the Albion Club Hotel for the past four years, and his popularity has been equally marked amongst his fellow members of the trade as with the travelling public and the sporting community. The function took placc afc the Gisborne Hotel, and was presided over by Mr. 0. S. Rurt. On behalf of the association, Mr. Rurt presented ifr, Sceats with two handsome rugs, one for Mrs. Sceats and the other for himself, and an attractive pewter casserole. Tn making the presentation Mr. Rurt. referred to Mr. Scents’ popularity throughout the town and district during (ho four years in which he had been associated with tiie Albion Club Hotel. •‘\Ve all aspire to be good citizens, entering into the life and sporting activities of the community,” said Mr. Rurt, “and in the opinion of us all All*. Sceats is superlatively a. good citizen.” Mr. Burt went on to refer to Mr. Sceats’ valued association with Rugby football, boxing, wrestling, and baskets'll, and expressed a hope that Mr. and Mrs. Sceats would not leave Gisborne, remarking that all the organisations with which lie had been associated would, he extremely unfortunate if they wore to lose Mr. Sceats’ assistance in the management of their affairs.
