NEW GUARD AGAIN
ELECTION PREPARATIONS ANTAGONISM TO LANG SYDNEY, August 2. Addressing a meeting of the New Guard, Colonel Eric Campbell said that although the New Guard was in reserve it must help the United Australia Party to win until some change in the present political system was evolved. He added that the Lang party tactics at tho coming election would be intense, and the New Guard would have to maintain law and order even if it amounted to giving someone a push in the face now and again. The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Childs, commenting on Colonel Campbell’s statement, said: “The maintenance of law and order is purely the function of the police. I am dealing with Colonel Campbell’s remarks.” Mr. Childs declined to say what action ho was taking.
