THE GALATEA BLOCK
SHARE -MILKERS AT WORK DEVELOPMENT. PKODEEDING' Ten share-milkers of an excellent type have taken up sections oii the Government’ Galatea-, block and have commenced milking for they new season. The men come from all parts of the North Island, and are experienced farmers. They have expressed Themselves as being delighted with the prospects at Galatea. At present 150 cows are being milked, but before the end of August between 500 and CCO will be milked. The sharemilkers are comfortably housed, and they have their families with them. There are 17 children of school age on the property, and steps arc being taken to provide them with a school. Besides the milking' herds' there arc 2000 station cattle and 1 10,000 sheep on the estate. Most- of tho area is in grass and the development work is. proceeding satisfactorily.
“As far as possible, goods to- and from the Galatea- block will be dispatched via Edgecumbe,” from the Hon. E; A, Ransom," 'Minister of Lands, in response to representations by the Whakatano County Council that all possible freight should be sent by the East Coast railway.
