In the first round of the golf championship, Mrs. Holm defeated Miss Kay (New Zealand), 6 and 5. Miss Kay was bewildered by a storm and unfamiliar conditions. Mrs. Holm, who is used to ivindswept courses, dominated the play. She lost only the twelfth hole when she missed a short putt for a half. Miss 15. Gaisford (New Zealand) defeated’Mrs. Huron, one up. Mrs. Jacobsen defeated Miss Courlay. one up. Mrs. Jacobsen’s victory was a real sensation. She merely entered as an adventure while holidaying with her husband and daughter. Miss Gourlay played really badly, though she was one up at the eighth. She took 46 for the last nine, compared with Mrs. Jacobsen’s 45.
