MOTORIST EXONERATED
DEATH OF STEWARD PEDESTRIAN’S NEC LECT (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, last night, The duty of foot passengers, as well as drivers of motor vehicles, to exercise extreme care on roads, was emphasised by the coroner, Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M., at Christchurch, in returning a verdict at the inquest into the death of Robert Graham Campbell, club steward, who was killed in an accident in Fitzgerald Avenue at about 7.4 n p.m. on April 21). The coroner said that from the evidence it appeared, that the driver of the motor car in front of which Campbell had walked, and by which lie had been knocked down, had been in no way negligi'b’e. If the foot passenger had exercised reasonable care t.here would have been no accident. 'The evidence was to the effect that Campbell, wishing to cross the street, stepped from the shadow of some trees into the roadway and the driver of the car could not possibly have .stopped In time to avoid au accident The speed of the car, it. was stated, was IS to 20 miles an hour.
