Mr. Allan was placed in full charge of the club’s green until the opening of next season. A most satisfactory job had been made of top-dress-ing the green, but rain is still needed to bring the grass away. It was resolved that any member of the club who has not his own bowls may compete for the set presented by Mrs. Allan, the winner to hold them for one season with the option of purchasing the set for £3 at the end of tlie season, members to be handicapped according to their play. Work on the new full-sized croquet lawn in the township is proceeding apace, levelling and sowing being completed. Mrs. J, Brown, “Lindsay,” Waipukurau, is visiting her daughter, Mrs. J. Atkins, Ngatapa road. •The keen interest taken in school affairs by the people of Patutahi was amply demonstrated last evening, when there was an attendance of 45 householders at the biennial committee election. The outgoing committee’s comprehensive report was adopted, tho balance sheet showing a sulistantial credit balance of £ls 5s 3d. Votes of thanks were accorded the outgoing committee and the school staff, while the caretaker, Mrs. J. Malison, was complimented on the cleanliness and firstrate condition of the buildings, and McGavcston’s bus service on trie efficient conveyance of the children from Waitulii and Ngatapa districts. A motion was carried unanimously urging the Government to reinstate the admission of the five-year-olds at the commencement of 1955. Out of 11 nominations, the following committee was elected. Mr. James Atkins, chairman, Mrs. L. Baty, secretary, Mr. H. B. Bull, treasurer, Messrs. J. McF. Clacker, C. McGrannachan, F. W. Ladd, and C. P. Judd. A most enjoyable rally of the Presbyterian Bible classes was held in tho Patutahi Hall, there being an attendance of over 50 members. Mr. Percy Williams, leader of the Patutahi class, welcomed the visitors from St. Andrew’s, St. David’s and Mntawhero classes. The speaker for the evening was Mr. Mattson, Presbyterian young men’s Bible class organiser, who addressed the gathering on the progress of Bible class work in” New Zealand. From modest beginnings tho number of members affiliated to the union had swelled year by year to the imposing membership of to-day. He instanced the tremendous value of the BiHe class organisation in developing Christian character, and of the invaluable work accomplished on home and foreign fields by missionaries specially supported bv tho Bible class union. * Mr. Allan Webster spoke briefly on tlie necessity of again forming the district committee, and it is hoped that in the near future some concerted work may be undertaken ns the result of this meeting.
