JOBS FOR BOYS
AUCKLAND BODY’S WORK MEETING POORLY ATTENDED (Por Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. Last year the Boys’ Employment Committee found country jobs for 500 city boys, the majority of whom, it is believed, would otherwise have become a charge on the city’s charitable organisations. It is estimated that the committee thus saved the community about £12,000.
The annual meeting, held last night, was attended by the president, Sir Joseph. Smith, the secretary and 15 others, although 60 prominent citizens had been invited' to come and hear of the committee’s work and intentions.
“You should not be disappointed at the small attendance,” remarked the Mayor, Mr. Q. W. Hutchison. “I have learned that the more you do the less people appreciate you. Had you not been carrying out your work in a way the public approved you would 1 have had many more here to-night.” Another of those present remarked that all .those who had turned up were extremely busy men.
