GIBBS CUP RACE J. MILLER WINS AGAIN The Gisborne Swimming Club’s annual race for the Gibbs Cup has been won again by J. Miller, who has now won the trophy for three years in succession. The race was decided last night over the course from the William Pettie Bridge to the Kaiti Bridge, and took place the evening before the winner joins the Doric Star ds seventh engineer. Five swimmers faced the starter, and all got off well together in the scratch race with a sealed handicap. J. Beckett took the early lead, and maintained io until about half-way, when Miller came to the front, with W. Varley, P. Wilson and Green following closely in that order. The finish was very close, Miller winning by about 2yds from Beckett, who was less than Ift. in front of Varley. Wilson was only inches behind Varley. The time was 3min. 6sec.

Varley won the handicap prize will; 20sec.
