NEW RELIEF SCHEME

Mr. Roosevelt to-day announced that a reorganised national relief programme iWoUlkLbiJ substituted for the civil works which is now being demobilised. The President is confident that the £190,000,000 appropriation will be sufficient to carry out the new project until I the spring of 1935. It is expected that I local committees will assume more re. I sponsibility in locating the absolutely ' needy and mapping work programmes. Federal contributions will be limited to wages almost entirely. Three distinct groups will bo benefited, namely, distressed families in rural areas, popula- ! tions living in single industry communities such as. miners in worked-out fields, and unemployed in large cities.
