While bathing at the Sands, Nelson, on Sunday, the clothes of four women bathers were stolen. When sounding the bottom of Lake Rotorua on one of the shallow flats around the Chores of the lakes, a resident reports that in one spot the longpointed stick which he was using as a probe was sunk to a depth of 40ft., reports the Rotorua Post. Laths were spliced to the stick to reach this depth, and when it was withdrawn it was quite hot and smeared with warm mud. Probing in the immediate vicinity showed that the bottom was quite stable.
