At 1.18 o’clock this afternoon the fire brigade received a call to 11 Dickson street, Kniti, but the'fire \yas quickly put out with water from a garden hose, and except for a slight charring of tho front door of the house no damage was done. A painter was burning the old paint off tiie door in preparation for repainting when the scrapings and. the dust collected in the cracks ignited, causing a large amo mt of smoke. Two boards of tho verandah were raised 1 to . make certain that the flames had not spread underneath. ‘-The. house is occupied by Mr. Alfred Hampton and is owned by Mr. Parnell.
