HEAVY FRUIT CROPS
GISBORNE’S SEASON
PROSPECTS REVIEWED Heavy crops of both stone and pip fruit arc expected in the Gisborne district during the coming season. These were the indications of some weeks back, and have been coftilrffidd by more recent observations, with g few exceptions. A review of the prospects ,of the district’s crops was given to a reporter to-day by the orchard ;itistructor, Mr. P. Everett, who said that stone fruits, including peaches, nectarines and plums, were almost all carrying Heavy crops. Pears, also, were carrying consistently heavy crops, the one exemption being the variety Winter jfellis, which in many orchards was light. In regard to apples, most of the varieties were showing prospects of heavy crops. Three varieties, Dunhs, Doughertys and Brightons, were . iijelincd to be patchy on account of their habit of cropping in alternate years. Also, in one.orchard.- the. drop of Delicious was decidedly light, b'ut this was an exception. '
