GISBORNE CLUB COMMITTEE HOLIDAY PROGRAMMES A meeting of the executive of the Gisborne Amateur Athletic and Harriei Club was held last evening, when Mr. C. McCoy presided, others present being Messrs. A. Campbell, E. Grant, J. L. Primrose, T. Leslie, W. M. Wildish, Smith. F. McDonald, lion, treasurer, J. Keane, lion, secretary, G. Quinn, L. Gavin, T. R. Gordon, and 11. D. Wade. A letter was received -from the. Hawke’s Bay-Povert\ Bay sub-centre advising that the N.Z.A.A.A. at its annual meeting held on November 21 had agreed to the Hawke’s Bay-Poverty Bay area being raised to the Status of a. centre. It was further stated that it would be the duty of delegates to the annual meeting to formally wind up the affairs of the sub-centre. Consequent upon such action the new centre will bo formed in accordance with the sanction given by the New Zealand council, and the rules of the centre will also be submitted for approval. The Napier executive strongly recommended the formation of other clubs in Poverty Bay so that application might he made for the establishment in Gisborne of a sub-centre. Members generally expressed their hearty approval of the action of the N.Z.A.A.A. in giving the sub-centre centre status, ft- was mentioned that members aspiring to New Zealand championship honors will now lie selected at the Napier centre championship meetings instead of at Wellington as heretofore. This will mean a. considerable saviife of time and finance, both to the club and to individual members. A further communication was received from the sub-centre reporting that amateur cyclists would be allowed to compete at club meetings until December 14, by which time it was hoped the whole question would he amicably Settled. The chairman of the Napier sub-centre had personally attended the last meeting of the N.Z.A.A.A. and had put the point of view of the country cyclists. He was of the opinion that clubs in this area would have no cause for dissatisfaction.

A letter was received from the Napier Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club inquiring what action the _ Gisborne club was taking in connection with the Hawke’s Bay. Herald Shield competition, which is usually held in December at Napier. It was resolved to advise the Napier club that owing to the fact that the Gisborne club lias recently had its attention focUssed on the inauguration of evening flood-light track meetings, it would not he convenient to send a team to Napier during the current month. I.t had therefore been decided to postpone the engagement until a suitable date in January.

Accounts amounting to £l3 wore passed for payment. The following were admitted to membership of tile club:—Miss Freda Martin. and .Messrs. R. Shipp and It. D. .Mclntyre. The following programme for Friday evening's electric light meeting was approved : 300vds. flat handicap for President's t’up": 132Cyds. flat handicap; 75vds. ladies’ handicap; 230yds. High Hehool handicap, second distance lor the Mercer Cup; 440yds. Marist handicap, second distance ior the Mercer < up ; 100yds. primary schoolboys’ race, under 13; 75yds. primary schoolgirls’ race, under 13; 3-mile cycle handicap ; |-mile cycle handicap; pole vault handicap; hop, step and jump handicap; 1 j-rnile junior cycle handicap; Basketball Club’s championship; 440yds. relay; relay for dub “roosters ’ ; and a novelty event. Wrestling events are to he arranged, subject to a permit being obtained. The following bouts were suggested: Harris v. Perrott; Low v. Boag. The deputation appointed last week to interview the executive of the To Karaka Sports Club in regard to the inclusion of amateur events on the country club's programme reported that amicable arrangements had been made with the sports club and a suitable programme arranged. On the motion of Mr. F. McDonald, seconded by Mr. W. M. Wildish, it was decided to grant Te Karaka a remit to hold sports on New Year’s Day, and to include amateur events on the programme. The motion

was carried, Mr. Mercer recording his dissent. A sub-commitce, consisting of Messrs. Cordon, McCoy and Leslie, was appointed to make arrangements regarding the inclusion of national dancing on the club’s evening programmes. The lighting committee was empowered to obtain an additional floodlight to further illuminate the track immediately in front of the stand. The Kaitaratahi Sports Club wrote requesting a permit to hold sports on .Boxing Day, at the same time enclosing a copy of the suggested programme. It was decided to grant the request; also a. permit to include amateur events on the programme, subject to minor alterations being made to the latter. PROFESSIONAL CLUB Good entries have been received by the Poverty Bay Professional Athletic and Cycling Club for the track meeting on Thursday evening. Arrangements for the gathering were made at a meeting of the club’s committee last night, when there were present: Messrs. B. Gritton, in the chair, J. Watts, N. Pitcher, W. McDonald, 11. Miller, L. Davy, E. Foster, W. Watts, J. Sutton, C. Church and F. Morgan. Reports were received in regard to last Thursday’s sports meeting and dance, and it was stated that the results had proved most satisfactory.
