MILLER INTER-CLUB CUP LAST WEEK OF TRAINING CLUB SERIES NEXT WEEK Crews of both the Poverty Bay and Gisborne rowing clubs are putting the final polish on their training for the respective four-oar series for the 1 residents’ Fours, and incidentally lor tne Miller Inter-Club Cup series, winch loliows immediately upon the individual club events and is intended to give nonrepresentative oarsmen a taste oi interclub work that otherwise they might never enjoy. . . The Presidents’ Fours series 111 eitliei club is the major event of the season, apart from regatta, and inter-club competition, and there is a natural keenness on the part of the various crews to distinguish themselves in this event. In recent years the addition of the Miller Cup races lias lent additional interest to the event., and has attracted more notice from the public than cither of the club competitions could have done alone. The crews are drawn by the usual method from the general run of the club membership, and naturally include practical novices who ordinarily would wait at least a season or two before standing a chance of selection for regatta work. The respective club series are carried on in the customary sequence, until the semi-finalists are decided m both clubs. The Miller Cup series is then commenced, the two crews in eac 1 club eliminated in the semi-final races meeting in the first of tin* Miller < up races, and the finalists eventually meeting to wind up the competition. Since the commencement* of the Miller InterClub Cup series three years ago, the Poverty Bay club has won it in earn year, tint this season the Gisborne club lias high hopes of turning the tables. There are several strong crews in noth clubs, and the meeting of the representatives at the end of next week should be full of interest. In both clubs, the Presidents Fours events will commence early next week, and with racing proceeding each evenin*', it should be possible to bring the whole of the pre-Christmas programme to finality by December 23.
