THROWN FROM HORSE
MAORI SHEARER KILLED ACCIDENT AT TV)LAG A JiAY (Special to the Herald.) TOLAGA BAY, this day. A Maori shearer. Matelmere Kota, -Id a single man, succumbed in the Tukiga Buy cottage hospital at ) (i’clock this morning to injuries received when he was thrown limn his horse near Tolaga Bay last evening. The deceased, who resided at Tikitiki, was riding with a companion from Tolaga Bay towards Mr. E. C. I,nisei’s station between Ii.IVU and ti. 45 p.m. His horse became restive, and in Dying to quieten it the deceased slewed the horse round, with the result that lie was thrown oil' over the side ol the horse’s neck. It is believed that alter his fall the deceased was struck on the head by the horse’s hoot's. Ivoia was picked up by his companion, who was riding close by, and was found to be bleeding from the nose and ears. Dr. Weeks, of Tolaga Bnv, was summoned, and after examining the deceased, ordered his removal to the cottage hospital, where he was taken by motor lorry, lie was unconscious when he reached tho hospital, and was found to lie suffering from a fractured skull, ns a result of which injuries he died at 1 a.m. today.
An inquest was to be held by the district coroner, Mr. E. E. Walton, S.M., at Tolaga Bay this afternoon.
