The Nuhaka Anglican Ladies’ Guild was most unfortunate in striking such a miserable day as last Friday for the moonlight garden party. Incessant rain fell throughout the day, and the garden party was postponed until early in February. A function was held, however, m Unity Hall at night, and although the adverse weather conditions prevented many from being present who would | otherwise have attended, a very enjoyable and, from a financial aspect, a thoroughly successful, evening was spent. Stalls, on which tho guild members’ I work for sale was exhibited, were held. Competitions, games and dancing were indulged in. Miss Melrose rendered a beautiful solo, and Mrs. J. Pearson supplied the music. The hat trimming and bed making competitions were well patronised, and caused much laughter. The coconut shies proved a very attractive feature. The committee expressed thanks to all who donated gifts and in any way helped to make the evening the undoubted success it was, special mention being made of Messrs. F. T. Woodley and R. Steed, jun. The president, Mrs. G. B. Steele, and her little hand, of willing workers are to be congratulated on their success, and it is to be sincerely hoped they will be more fortunate with the weather when they do hold their moonlight garden party.
