Lyttelton.—Dec. 5 : Arrived, Rangatira, 6.45 a.m., from Wellington; Waipiata, 7 a.m., from Timaru; H.M.S. Laburmim, 1.30 p.m., from Akaroa. Over 7600 more cows were tested by the New Zealand Co-operative Iferdtesting Association during October than were tested in October. 1932. The average production showed an increase of 161 b. milk and 2.201 b. butter-fat. While crossing the Waimea River near Atholl on horseback a Palmerston South resident had jan unusual .experience, lie was attacked by a flock of about 20 or 30 stilts, and bad to ward the birds off by vigorous use of bis arms, lie had intruded on a nesting ground of j the birds.
