REAY BRIDGE NEWS
(Herald Correspondent.) The second series of the home and home matches played between Reay Bridge and Waingake cricket clubs tool; place at Reay Bridge in glorious weather and on a wicket that favored the bowlers. K- Hedstrom knocked up 18 out of Reay Bridges first innings total of 65, 11. Kane and P>. Parker also making a few. T. White, D. Hansen, J. Smith and 11. Mitchell divided the wickets. A pleasing feature was the greatly improved fielding of the Waiuguke colls, A. Hall, C. Gibson, J. and L. Wykes, and C. Edmondson. 1,. Shanks, the Waingake captain, handled his team well. Waingake failed by five runs to equalise the scores. T. White top scored, batting light through the innings for 38, hut should have been stumped off T. Wykes and also caught and bowled by the same player, who is showing vastly improved form with both bat and ball this season. R. Honan, K. Hedstrom, T. Wykes and R. Field shared the howling. R. TTonan, the Reay Bridge captain, played havoc with the tail-end batsmen, almost doing the "t-trick on two occasions. Reay Bridge were very lax in the field and the catching was bad. Tmnroved fielding! was shown hv some of the colts, 11. Kane, K. Ogden, and W. MacPherson, the latter behind the stumps. “,eay Bridge’s second innings was a procession, the side being dismissed for nine runs. T. White and D. Hausen
were responsible for the rout, the former taking four and the hitter six of ♦he wickets. Hanson did the hat-trick. The runs required were secured for the loss of two wickets, Waingake winning by eight wickets.
'Luncheon and afternoon tea were served by lady friends of the respective teams, there being a large number of spectators, including a fair number from Gisborne. Amongst (hose assisting! were Mosdornes Bull, Wvkes, Hansen, White, end Absalom, of Waingake, Mesdames Field, Parker, and Gibson; Misses K Parker. A. Field, and E. Wykes. A most enjoyable euchre tournament was held in Reay Bridge in aid of the Plunket Society, there being about 40 players present. The prizes worn donated by Mrs. C. Hamilton, ladies, and Mr. If. R. Livingston, men. and were won by Miss Alice Shanks and Mr !>. Hansen, other prizes being annexed l>v Mrs. L. Hansen and Mr. L. Wvkes. Ml the prize-winners hailed from Wainyake. which was well represented. Mvs, Hamilton thanked those present for their goodwill towards the society. Mr. V Taylor, chairman of the school committee, intimated that the next, and final tournament of the year would he held in a fortnight when the aggregate prizes for the season would be presented. 4 s there are several in each section well in the running the final games should prove interesting.
