CHILLED BEEF

REGULAR SHIPMENTS URGED SYDNEY, Nov. 17. There appears to be no future for Australian beef on the English market unless in a chilled state, according to Mr. V. D. Bell, grazier, of Cnmboon, Queensland, who returned to Sydney by the Strathnavcr. The last shipment of chilled meat had aroused much interest at Smithfield market, said Mr. Bell, and lie had been advised that London dealers wanted regular consignments. Australian exporters should endeavor to arrange for .such shipments. 'the quotation for frozen meal, Mil a lb, was misleading, as large quantities remained on hand costing a farthing a month for storage. Frozen meat was practically unsalable, except for army contracts, and through the London Countv Council.

Mr. Bell urged better grading of Australian beef, and the sending of only the best to the English market. At present there was no uniformity. Tho features about the beef from the Argentine were its grading and uniformity. At, the same time, the Argentine shippers took care not to glut the market. This was achieved by an arrangement among 1 lie shipping firms.
