CONFLICTING REPORTS
SHOOTING OF GERMAN INCIDENT ON FRONTIER RERUN, Nov. 25. The Government is making energetic representations to Vienna' against the alleged shooting of a Gertnlm soldier, Schumacher, by the Austrian frontier guards. It is semi-official ly denied that the Austrians were provoked ny shouts ol “Ha.il, Hitler!” or that Schumacher had been in Austrian territory. The 'Germans declare that 23 unarmed soldiers iu civilian dress were skiing. There was no exchange of words, .while the Austrians fired at a distance of SCO to 1000 yards. Moreover, if the Germans shouted “Hail, Hitler !” that was no reason fur the shooting of'harmless pedestrians. Austrian reports' state that 200 German soldiers and Nazi Storm Troops attempted to outflank the Austrian frontier guards when Schumacher was' shot.
